Thinking about putting radiant heat in your house? If you are planning to install wood floors, you will need to choose an engineered wood floor, not a solid wood floor. Radiant heat can be accomplished with pipes in the slab with heated running water through them, or electrical pads. Although many people install solid wood floors over radiant heat, especially quartersawn/vertical grain flooring, this is not an appropriate installation. Do some people get away with doing it? Yes, but many others have problems and flooring is one of the largest investments you will make in your home. We do not warrant our floors to be installed over radiant heat and we are happy to provide you with technical guidance such as this. No one wins when bad advice and misinformaton is put into the marketplace and the horror stories are plenty.
Save yourself the heartache and make sure you choose the right flooring product for your specific installation.
