Also known as Cumaru, this flooring exhibits mostly yellow to medium brown tones, but can also include red tones with milk chocolate coloration/striping. General Description: Brazilian Teak is an extremely dense wood with a tan to brownish-red color. Darker pieces may exhibit some darker striping.
Distribution: Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru
Color Range: Cumaru is mostly yellowy to medium-brown tones, but also includes red tones and milk chocolate coloration.
Color Change: Color variation will mute somewhat over time, but will still remain. The range overall will become more uniform.
Where To Use: Brazilian Teak may be used residentially or commercially wherever a rich tan brown color is desired.
Species Characteristics & Issues: Braziilan Teak/Cumaru has been known to cause contact dermatitis allergic reaction. Long sleeves and a mask are recommended when exposing oneself to dust from this species. It should be noted that all wood dust has been found to have negative implications over time when breathed into the respiratory system.
Site Sanding/Finishing: Oil finishes may not dry on this wood; please always test the finish you want to use beforehand to avoid unnecessary and unsatisfactory results. Most will not, and it is not suggested oil finish be used to avoid unnecessary complications and unsatisfactory results.
